Trends across the UK
- Across the country, unique job postings increased by +26% during May, compared to the previous month.
- Sectors which saw significant growth across the country were Catering & Hospitality and Cleaning & Facilities Management.
- According to the Office for National Statistics, almost a third (31%) of businesses with 10 or more employees were experiencing worker shortages in late April.

London
- During May, unique job postings in London increased by +18.4% compared to the previous month
- The sector with the biggest increase in job postings was Catering and Hospitality, which is to be expected at this time of year, listings increased by +31.5% compared to April.
- Another sector that grew across the capital was Cleaning & Facilities Management, unique job listings increased by +27.5% compared to the previous month.
- All sectors in the capital saw growth, the smallest rise in unique job postings was in Business, Legal and Finance related roles (+12.7%) This is normally a more dominant sector in the city.
Scotland: Tayside and Lanarkshire
- Unique job postings in Scotland increased by +30.4% compared to the previous month.
- The sector which saw the largest growth across the country was Education and training – unique job postings increased by +40 compared to April.
- Taking a closer look at regions, unique job postings in Lanarkshire increased by +38.6% and 25.9% in Tayside compared to April.
- In Dundee City, the biggest increase in job postings was in Construction (+37.5%) compared to the previous month. With the majority of sectors in the city seeing growth, the –6.2% decrease in IT-related roles, compared to the previous month, stood out.
North West
- During May, unique job postings in the North West increased by +24.8% compared to the previous month.
- As seen in other regions across the country, the sectors which saw the biggest increase were Cleaning & Facilities Management (+33.3%) and Catering and Hospitality (+32.8%) compared to April.
- Part of this was driven by Greater Manchester – where nearly half of job postings in the North West are located. In this area, Catering and Hospitality related roles increased by +29.7% compared to the previous month.
- We also saw a seasonal increase in Merseyside. Where Tourism, Leisure & Arts job listings increased by +50.2% compared to the previous month.
West Midlands
- Unique job postings in the West Midlands increased by +25% compared to April.
- As to be expected, there was a seasonal increase in the Catering and Hospitality sector across region. Unique job postings grew by +34.4% compared to the previous month, this was largest growth across the West Midlands.
- Other sectors which saw significant growth during May were Cleaning & Facilities Management (+31.4%) and Construction & Labouring (+31%) compared to the previous month.
Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire
- Unique job postings in Yorkshire and the Humber region increased by +35% compared to the previous month.
- Across the region, the sector which saw the largest increase was IT. Unique job postings increased by 40.3% compared to April. This was driven by big increases in the Yorkshire areas and Derby.
- Other sectors which saw a significant rise in unique job postings were Catering and Hospitality (+37.3%), Construction and Labouring (+36.2%) and Sales and Marketing (+35.2%) compared to the previous month.
Wales
- Unique job postings in Wales increased by +28.3% compared to the previous month.
- The sector which saw the largest increase in unique job postings was Sales and Marketing, where they increased by +37.5% compared to April.
- Following this, we also saw increases in Transport, Logistics and Supply Chain related roles (+37%) and Cleaning & Facilities Management (+35.7%) compared to the previous month.
- In Cardiff – which has a quarter of the job postings in Wales – the Retail sector saw the biggest rise in unique job postings (+35%) compared to April.
Surrey, Sussex & Hampshire
- Unique job postings in the region increased by +26% compared to the previous month.
- Following the trend we’ve seen across the country, the two sectors which saw the largest increase in unique job postings were: Catering and Hospitality and Cleaning & Facilities Management – both saw unique job postings increased by +35.4% compared to April.
- In Brighton – which contains a high number of jobs in the region – unique job postings increased by +28.8% compared to the previous month. This growth was driven by the expected increase in Catering and Hospitality related roles (+44.8%), alongside an increase in Tourism, Leisure and Arts Roles (+33.7%) compared to April.
