Trends across the UK
There’s been a noticeable decrease of job postings in most areas of the UK with manufacturing and production; construction and labouring; and warehousing seeing a drop of up to 20% in some areas.
As summer is approaching, we’re seeing a seasonal increase in job postings for catering and hospitality in many parts of the UK.
London
- Overall job postings have decreased by 8.8% between March and April.
- Even with the downward trend of job postings, there is still strong demand in sectors such as health and social care and education.
- The most in-demand skills in east and south London include finance, agile methodology, accounting, and auditing.
Scotland: Tayside and Lanarkshire
- Scotland is showing a positive trend in terms of job postings, with an increase of 4.9% between March and April, with Dundee and South Lanarkshire showing the biggest rise of almost 6%.
- The warehousing (+20.7%), and tourism, leisure and arts sectors (+16.7%) saw the highest rise in job postings in North Lanarkshire. Angus saw the biggest rise in job postings in the transport, logistics and supply chain sector of +30% (month-on-month).
North West
- Overall job posting have decreased by 8.8% between March and April, with Merseyside showing the biggest fall at 12%.
- Whilst the agriculture, environmental and animal care (+0.5%), and catering and hospitality (+2.9%) sectors have seen an increase in job postings, the major sectors such as manufacturing and construction have seen the biggest drop.
West Midlands
- Whilst there is an overall negative trend in job postings in the region between March and April (-12.2%), the catering and hospitality sector is showing an increase of 4.7%.
- The sectors with the most job postings are business, finance and legal, health and social care, and public services and administration. The sectors that have seen the greatest decrease are warehousing (-22.7%), manufacturing and production (-21.9%) and construction and labouring (-20.9%).
Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire
- This region shows an overall negative trend in terms of job postings (-10.6% month-on-month), with the biggest decline in Nottinghamshire (-17.5%).
- The warehousing (-20%) and manufacturing and production (-17.4%) sectors saw the biggest decline in job postings across the region.
Wales
- Wales is showing an overall positive trend in terms of job postings. Overall, unique job postings increased by 5.6% between March and April.
- The sectors with the most job postings are health and social care, and public services and administrative, whereas the sectors that have seen the greatest increase are agriculture, environment and animal care (+23.8%) and catering and hospitality (+20.3%).
- This region is showing a lower proportion of job seeker claimers of 3.9 compared to the national UK average of 4.2.
Surrey, Sussex & Hampshire
- This region shows an overall negative trend in terms of job postings with a decrease of 3.4% between March and April.
- The agriculture, environmental and animal care (-5.5%), and protective services (-4.7%) sectors have seen downward trend in unique posting between March and April.
- Interestingly, Bognor Regis has seen an overall positive trend in terms of in job postings, particularly in sales and marketing (+75%), customer services (+51%) and catering and hospitality (+40.7%). This is potentially indicating a seasonal trend.
